CPPAMO Audience Building Workshop

Artistic Director Sandra Laronde spoke on Audience Building and Marketing at CAPACOA (Canadian Arts Presenting Association) as part of Cultural Pluralism in the Performing Arts Movement Ontario (CPPAMO) to presenters, funders and colleagues. She spoke on how presenters can increase attendence, what presenters/performers need to know to increase their interest in what is being presented on stage, what Aboriginal and ethno-racial communities need to know to be interested and what research would be useful in assisting in this area, among other key questions.

As part of CAPACOA, Red Sky received a standing ovation for our 15-minute excerpt of Tono from national presenters, colleagues and funders.

Performance Art, Experimental Theatre and Dance Workshop

October 20, 21 & 22, 2010

Premiere Native American conceptual artist James Luna (USA) and performance artist Guillermo Gómez-Peña (Mexico) present a 3-day residency workshop in Toronto on October 20, 21 and 22, 2010.

Red Sky Performance and Toronto Free Gallery are pleased to present a 3-day residency and workshop led by Luna and Gómez-Peña. The workshop will have a focus on performance art and the human body as a site for creation, reinvention, memory and activism. Daily exercises will be borrowed from multiple traditions including performance art, experimental theatre and dance. There are only 10 spots available. Voice and Movement Basics Workshop

This mixed group of 14 workshop participants gathered together to learn the basics of movement, voice, and an actor's focus. Greg Templeton, an active participant, loved the experience: "Jam packed! Song, dance, improv- all in an hour! I was impressed."

In two groups, the Raven cast led 50 grade 6 students at Lord Roberts Junior Public School through dance, voice, and concentration exercises designed to build an actor's awareness. Students also had an opportunity to ask questions on a one-on-one basis.

Backstage Tour and Dance Workshop

The Raven cast led a group of 75 participants from junior high and high school in experiencing a backstage tour to see the inner workings of the stage; a dance workshop, where they learned moves from the story's Raven Hop; and an up close and personal session with the Raven himself.

Red Sky facilitates Inuit performers to attend the Spring Festival Global Gala in Beijing

February 15, 2010

Red Sky facilitated three Inuit performers to participate in the "The North meets South" event in Beijing. Kendra Tagoona (Baker Lake, Nunavut), Becky Mearns (Pangnirtung, Nunavut), and Vinnie Karetak (Arviat, Nunavut) will perform as part of the "Spring Festival Global Gala" on Beijing Television which is the second largest TV station in China. As part of the Chinese New Year celebrations in Beijing, their performance will be broadcast on February 15, 2010 with an audience reach of over 200 million viewers.

Master Class on Indigenous Music

Artists-in-residence at The Banff Centre's Music & Sound Department thoroughly enjoyed Red Sky's Master Class on Indigenous Music including live singing, Indigenous worldview, musical inspiration, and Indigenous instrumentation. This Master Class featured the live music featuring three performers from Red Sky's highly acclaimed Tono, a dance and live music production.
