Truth and Reconciliation Summit

Artistic Director Sandra Laronde was a thought-leader at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity to speak to Arts and Culture and its place in Truth and Reconciliation. Banff Centre brought together national figures in the TRC conversation and local Bow Valley community residents to explore the roles in the reconciliation process.

Canadian Race Relations: Art and Inclusion

Artistic Director Sandra Laronde was a panelist on Art and Inclusion as part of a national conference titled Inclusive Canada 2017 and Beyond. This two-day national conference brought communities together through interactive presentations and hands-on breakout sessions to discuss the challenges and promises ahead.

Artistic Director Sandra Laronde attended the Redx Talk and community events around the Buffalo Treaty in Banff on September 30, 2016. This day of events, ideas, engagement, Indigenous food, music, art and dialogue will precede the historic signing of the Buffalo Treaty – a treaty signed and upheld with the intent to re-introduce free ranging buffalo back to their traditional territory in Alberta.

Artistic Director Sandra Laronde attended the AGO Creative Minds event at Massey Hall in Toronto on September 20, 2016. The Art Gallery of Ontario, Massey Hall, CBC and The Banff Centre partnered to create this event with the support of Jonas and Lynda Prince. Artists Andre Alexis, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Deepa Mehta and Rebecca Belmore spoke about social justice and the political and cultural barriers to inclusion and equality.

Workshop with Aboriginal Youth

Red Sky partnered with Two Wheel View (TWV) and the Native Ambassador Post-Secondary Initiative (NAPI) at the University of Calgary. NAPI is a community-based Aboriginal youth outreach program designed to motivate and empower Aboriginal youth to become future leaders.
