Red Sky tours to World Expo 2010 Shanghai

Red Sky Performance proudly announces that its highly acclaimed Tono – a visually brilliant dance and live music creation that connects the world Indigenous cultures of Canada, Mongolia and China will perform at the World Expo 2010 Shanghai in China from May 5 – 9, 2010. Red Sky has the prestigious honour of performing at the Opening Gala of the Canadian Pavilion on May 8, 2010 at 7:30 pm plus four performances.
Red Sky is thrilled to be part World Expo 2010 Shanghai China which is an international gathering that attracts over 200 nations and international organizations as well as 70 million visitors. This event will be the widest participation in the history of the World Expositions.
Conceived and directed by Sandra Laronde, and choreographed by Sandra Laronde and Roger Sinha, featuring 11 dancers and live musicians, Tono is a stampede for the senses. Red Sky received standing ovations wherever it went on its most recent tour to the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad, (Vancouver Playhouse), Calgary’s High Performance Rodeo (Theatre Junction Grand), and Edmonton’s Arden Theatre. En route, Tono continues to mesmerize audiences with its celebration of the creature universally regarded as the epitome of strength, grace and beauty.
Tono’s production history vaunts a world stage line-up of engagements. It was a recent highlight at the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad, and was also featured as part of the Closing Ceremonies of the cultural programming of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2008 Meet in Beijing Festival, the International Arts and Culture Festival in Inner Mongolia, the 2008 Summer Arts Festival at The Banff Centre in Alberta, and the 2009 Luminato Festival in Toronto. Red Sky will continue a high profile tour of Tono throughout Canada, the United States and overseas.
Bursting on to the scene in 2000, this Toronto-based company was founded by Artistic Director Sandra Laronde. Renowned for its artistry and innovation, Red Sky Performance is a leading company that shapes contemporary world Indigenous performance in dance, theatre and music.
