Red Skys "Performance Research" aims to develop and improve
the knowledge, understanding and practice of contemporary Indigenous performance
in theatre, dance and music worldwide, and to affect change through investigation,
sharing and discovery.
The goals of "Performance Research are:
to focus upon contemporary performance culture,
and to investigate the sources and context of traditional expression,
and the relationship of innovation to tradition; and
to dig to discover origins and roots, and to push boundaries of
perception and possibilities with regard to contemporary Indigenous performance.
Red Sky produces innovative performance work; creates inspirational learning
opportunities through master classes, intensive workshops, symposiums,
and lectures with the worlds leading Indigenous creators, and collaborates
and exchanges with performance companies and artists of international
significance; and collects and archives Indigenous performance research
from around the world.
Red Skys Performance Research is dedicated to the nourishment and
advancement of contemporary Indigenous performance, and the advancement
of the artistic ecology of Canada.
Red Skys Performance Research is a joint venture with universities
located in Canada, United States, Mexico and New Zealand.

Sky's Master Classes are inspirational learning opportunities with
the world's leading Indigenous creators. Our Master Classes are
dedicated to the nourishment and advancement of the artistic ecology
in Canada.
These unique master classes reflect Red Sky's goal to provide the
opportunity to theatre, dance, music, storytelling and film professionals
for intimate face-to-face exchanges with others who can share their
experiences, skills and pass on seasoned advice.

Makka Kleist on Stage Presence
About Makka Kleist
Makka Kleist is an accomplished actor, director and teacher, and
considered one of the worlds leading indigenous performers.
Makka is Inuk originally from Greenland, and has trained extensively
with Tuukkaq Theatre in Denmark, and performed in Tuukkaq's "Nattoralik",
"Kattutta, "Eqqartuussisuaraq", and "Uaajeerneq
in Greenland, Scandinavia, Holland, France, Germany, United States
and Canada. She has also worked with Silamuit Theatre, North Atlantic
Cultural Cooperation, Native Earth, and was a coordinator for the
Inuit Circumpolar Conference in Nuuk and Kuujjuaq in Greenland.

Carlos Rivera on Traditional
& Contemporary Dance Forms
About Carlos Rivera
Carlos Rivera is a core performer with Red Sky, and a dancer, teacher
and choreographer of traditional Mexican and contemporary dance.
He is of Mixteco indigenous descent, and studied at the Government
of Mexico City's Cultural Secretary Dance School and the Centre
for Choreographic Research (CICO-INBA) at the Mexican Fine Arts
Institute. He has been a part of numerous dance productions in Mexico
and Canada.

Michael Greyeyes on Viewpoints Improvisation
About Michael Greyeyes
Michael Greyeyes graduated from The National Ballet School before
joining The National Ballet of Canada in 1987. He moved to
New York City to dance with the company of renowned choreographer
Eliot Feld as a soloist. Michael was one of the choreographers
for Red Skys SHIMMER which was commissioned by the 2006 Canada
Dance Festival. He was the subject of a CBC documentary entitled
He Who Dreams: Michael Greyeyes on the Pow Wow Trail, televised
nationally on Adrienne Clarkson Presents. In this documentary,
the dances of his own culture led him to re-envision how contemporary
movement intersects with the ancient traditions of his Plains Cree
history.
