Red Sky's world premiere of Underworlds follows the Ojibway (Anishnaabe)
hero Cheeby-Aub-Oozoo whose mythic descent to the underworld bequeaths
music and dream quests to the land of the living. Underworlds is
based on the mythology born from Canadas soil; it is not transplanted
mythology but unique to the indigenous Canadian cultural experience.
Red Sky's Artistic Director and performer Sandra Laronde
and world class master composer Antonio Zepeda, along with
Native Canadian mezzo soprano Marion Newman and Ojibway traditional
singers Eddy Robinson and Derrick Bressette, reveal
through live music, song and dramatic storytelling this mystical
being who is an essential force in the world of the Ojibway.

Caribou
Song tells the story of two Cree children who follow the caribou by dogsled
with their family. When a herd of caribou thunders through their camp
one day, the parents worry that the children have been trampled. Instead,
the children find a way to embrace the spirit of the caribou who rush
by, leaving the children unharmed, and laughing and playing on a large
rock.
Caribou Song is part of Musicools, the first Circumpolar Music Festival
for Families and features companies from Iceland, Finland as well as Nunavut,
Montreal and Toronto in Canada.
