Transcript: Raven Stole the Sun Video
Curtains open halfway to reveal a bird flapping its wings and a red sky in the background. There is high-paced drumming music, followed by a flute note. The curtains open up further to reveal the title of the production piece, Raven Stole the Sun. The music gradually disappears and the screen goes black.
The scene of the stage reveals three boxes to the left, a chair behind them, a fire pit to the right of the stage, alongside a blue, flowing river. Seik is standing in the middle of the stage with her beautiful dress in red and black and holding a basket. Raven is standing next to her to the right, in his beautiful white-feathered costume and a mask on top of his head.
Seik: What kind of dancing do you do?
Raven: You’ve heard of the crow hop? (Seik: Um hm?) I do… the Raven hop.
Raven, in a very matter-of-fact way, has his hands on his waist as he reaches across the sky, saying he does the raven hop. Seik covers her mouth as she tries to hold in her laugh.
Seik: The raven hooopp! Hm hm hm! (Seik giggles and points her finger toward Raven and walks quickly towards him) You’re making that up!
Raven: That would be very un-Raven like of me. I, Madam, do not make things up. The Raven hop does indeed exist and I dance it better then anybody.
The woman looks away from Raven, her hands crossed across her chest, with a disbelieving look.
Seik: Uh huh.
Raven: You don’t believe me? Well, I do not tolerate disbelief. Hit it, girl!
The marimba-type music begins as the Raven begins the song/dance. Raven moves to the right of the stage with his hand waving in the air. Seik walks to the left of the stage and places her basket on the ground and joins in with the Raven in dancing with her right arm waving high over her head. Seik is on the right side of the stage and Raven is on the left side of the stage when they both start to clap at the audience, encouraging them to join in on clapping. Raven and Seik meet in the middle of the stage where Raven, standing to the left of Seik, starts making bird sounds while lifting his arms along his sides and jumping on the spot as he does. Seik follows him. Raven begins to rap and dance, as Seik sits down at the front of the stage with her back towards the audience.
Raven: I wanna teach you something called the Raven Hop, It’s just like another thing we all call the Crow Hop, Just mix it up and in with some hip hop, And you’ve got the moves to make the dance called the Raven Hop Hop. Raven hip hop Raven hop.
Keep it flowing band better not stop, Break beat break down. Get down all around. Dance on the rocks. Dance till you drop, That’s the only way to do the Raven Hop Hop Raven Hop Hop. Raven Hop.

During the dance, the Raven draws Seik onto the middle of the stage. Raven first shows Seik dance moves using just his feet and his hands resting on his hips. Seik grabs her skirt to show her feet and tries to follow the Raven. Seik appears to be having difficulty doing this particular dance move, so Raven shows Seik another dance move that consists of flapping both arms like a bird and hopping to the front, left corner of the stage. Raven signals Seik, to try the dance move, by waving his arm. Seik successfully imitates Raven’s dance move and together, they both return back to the middle of the stage using the same dance moves. When the Raven and Seik reach the middle of the stage, they both start the Running Man on the spot, alternating legs and pumping both arms. While jumping on the spot and raising their arms on their side, Raven and Seik sing…
Raven and Seik: Be bop. Hip hop. Crow hop. Raven hop. Raven hop hop Raven Hip hop R-!!!
The music stops. They both fall down laughing and exhausted. The audience laughs and claps while Seik and the Raven try to catch their breaths.
Raven: (Breathless and sitting on the ground) And that my dear, is the Raven Hop!
Seik: (Shifting to sit on her knees in a very lady-like manner) Do all Ravens do that?
Raven: Ah, just the talented ones!
The music fades and the screen gradually turns to black. There is high-paced drumming music, followed by a flute note. Red Sky appears in big red and orange tone colours and as this sign sparkles, the website, redskyperformance.com, appears across the screen and sits just below Red Sky. The music gradually disappears and the screen turns black.
