Festival of Ideas and Creation

Red Sky will be part of Canadian Stage’s Festival of Ideas and Creation, a digital space for artists and audiences to come together, build and feed the creative imagination, and enhance community connections.

On December 3, Red Sky and Canadian Stage co-present Wisdom Keepers: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teaching of Plants with Robin Wall Kimmerer, hosted by Sandra Laronde.

The Mayor’s Evening for the Arts

Red Sky is invited to present at The Mayor’s Evening for the Arts which supports Arts in the Parks and the COVID-19 Response Effort Initiatives of Toronto Arts Foundation. With participation from Mayor John Tory, this year’s event will take place in an immersive online space with digital performances.

Virtual Indigenous Encounters of Culture, Art & Design in the Americas 2020

Artistic Director Sandra Laronde participates and presents in the Virtual Indigenous Encounters of Culture, Art & Design in the Americas 2020. The symposium shares Indigenous perspectives and knowledge in Indigenous performing arts, design, film, narrative and poetry, cultural heritage, women’s current affairs, and youth with a focus on building a data network, creating exchanges across regions and building future projects and collaborations.

Canadian Association for the Performing Arts (CAPACOA)

From November 6, 2020 to March 31, 2021

Artistic Director Sandra Laronde participates in CAPACOA’s International Market Development Committee which will undertake targeted initiatives and showcase Canada on world stages. This digital exchange between Canada and Chile will focus around key markets of interest, and support Canadian industry leaders as catalysts for collaborative exchange. The IMDC 2020 Initiative explores network development in the era of COVID-19 with a view to advantageously position Canada in a post recovery environment.

Creative Boost: Countdown to Business

Sandra Laronde joined an online #CreativeBoost: Countdown to Business panel with Danijela Gorey (Photographer), Daniijela Weddings (Photographer), Gordon Shadrach (Visual Artist), SOLITAIR (Artist/Producer & Songwriter), and moderator Snjezana Pruginic. The panel is geared towards artists, creatives, and cultural workers who are thinking about starting a creative business during or post COVID-19 and want to learn from experienced creative entrepreneurs. Panelists shared their personal stories on business planning, how they managed challenges like the COVID-19 crisis, and tips on how to prepare a business for the future.

Empatheatre: A Workshop on Empathy and Social Justice Theatre Practices in South Africa

Empatheatre is a responsive, action-led research and theatre-making process which capitalizes on the potential of the theatre experience to unpack the inner-workings of social rupture. South African theatre-maker Neil Coppen led a workshop examining the history and impacts of South African social-justice theatre movements. Neil Coppen is a South African theatre-maker and activist who has won several awards for his playwriting, design and direction work including the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Drama 2011 and the 2019 Olive Schreiner prize for Drama. He explored the challenges that arise with theatricalizing research and shaping effective storytelling advocacy strategies. The presentation was followed by a question and answer session.
