National Dance Week 2013

Red Sky participates in Dancing in Diversity as part of the National Dance Week, presented by The Canadian Dance Assembly (CDA) and Cultural Pluralism Arts Movement Ontario (CPAMO) in partnership with Dancemakers. This national campaign leads up to International Dance Day as part of the “I love dance/J'aime la danse” and embraces the rich and varied landscape of Canadian dance. Red Sky shares the stage with companies and artists such as Sampradaya, Kashedance, Little Pear Garden, Lua Sheyenne and Company, Olga Barrios, Jazymn Fyffe, Sashar Zarif, Nova Bhattacharya, Kevin A. Ormsby and Kashedance.

First-Ever Minaake Awards

Artistic Director Sandra Laronde will MC the first-ever Minaake Awards - Toronto Aboriginal Women's and Youth Community Achievement Awards, which celebrate the achievements of brilliant Indigenous women from all walks of life, in the Greater Toronto Area. Sandra will announce the six achievement awards in Leadership, Advocacy and Human Rights, The Good Path, LGTB2S/Two-Spirited, Challenger (Youth) and Culture Keeper.

Award for Excellence in Aboriginal Relations

Artistic Director Sandra Laronde participated on the jury as CCAB's Award for Excellence in Aboriginal Relations. This award is designed to recognize a Canadian who has contributed, through professional and voluntary commitments, to building bridges between Aboriginal people and Canadian society. Their efforts have made a substantial impact across Canada and across sectors, including the business sector. The award winner will be announced in May 2013 by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business.

Speaker at Vancouver International Dance

March 9 - 12, 2013

Director Sandra Laronde was invited to be a guest speaker at The Gathering conference at the Scotiabank Dance Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia from March 9th to the 12th, 2013. The Gathering was presented by the Vancouver International Dance Festival and Kokoro Dance in association with The Dance Centre. The conference supported performing artists in finding strategies to enhance professional touring opportunities for their creative work, and focused on culturally diverse and Indigenous dance artists and performances.
